August 1, 2006: "Peace" and "Life report" regular meeting
The long rainy season was over at last and we have intense heat daily. We had a "Peace" regular meeting today. Many members join at the house for preparation work. Lunch preparation on the first floor and printing work on the second floor.
Worship music echoed at 9:55 announcing the beginning of the meeting. The chairs were set round today. Five members came from Beppu branch.
"Peace meeting" started at last. Here in Japan, three out of four were born after the World War 2. Mitsushiki group, in charge of the day, thought that it was important to know the reality of war before think about peace and introduced some war experience stories gathered from their own experiences, from parents, and from books. All the attendants confirmed anew the importance of peace.
The general leader had once lived in Washington DC when September 11 tragedy took place. She told about the mission of our GOF (Group Of Friends) based upon the tragedy of war.
All the attendants wrote their own thinking of peace on the sheet of paper and showed each other. The slogan read: "Watch, listen, and do carefully","No bullying,no discrimination,no violence in order to create bright, free, and easy daily life", "GOF as the base of my life","Independent and self-support of kids","Think about peace from my account book","Thinking, living, and praying."
This member has two kids and appealed "The grow of kids and peaceful life."
Beppu members prepared the slogan in advance. "Each step toward peace is my wish." Another member introduced her war-time experience as a school girl at that time. She was forced to work in a factory under the name of "work contribution."
After that, National life study meeting held on July 19 and 20 was reported. We confirmed again that the continuation of daily life study is the way to peace.
"Summer holiday kids life" was reported as well. One of GOF members opened her log house in Kujyu highland for the kids for good memories of natural life in the wood.
Morning glory makes good shade on the window.
After the meeting, we took lunch as usual. The dish of the day was prepared by Wasada and Kujyu group in advance.
The menu was Burmese-style curry and instant pickles. The dessert was canceled today and the money for making it was donated to Unicef.
Instead, we enjoyed present cookies from Beppu branch and Umeni from a member. They were very good.
